About this calculator

PPF is a government-backed savings scheme. You deposit up to ₹1.5 lakh a year and interest is added once a year.

How it is calculated

  • Each year: balance = (previous balance + yearly deposit) × (1 + rate).
  • This assumes you deposit before the 5th of April, so the money earns for the full year.

Assumptions. A constant rate and the deposit made before the 5th of the first month of the year. Depositing later in the year earns slightly less.

Questions

Why 15 years?

The scheme has a 15-year lock-in. Partial withdrawals are allowed from year 7 under its rules.

What if the rate changes?

Re-run with the new rate. This calculator uses one rate for every year.

Is this exact?

It is a standard formula using the numbers you enter. Your bank, fund or lender may round differently or use different dates, so treat it as a close estimate and check the final figure with them.
